Is Finite Ftl That Big An Aid?

Recommended Posts

Friends,

Let us assume momentarily that we get FTL—But our FTL Drive has its own unsurpassable velocity. It is just that the new speed limit is higher than the old one.

Sure it would be a help, but if we could travel at 7c, outside of visiting a few of the closest stars, would it really open up the cosmos for us?

Extend the argument to 17c...

37c; 57c; 117c...

Even if you could get a drive that  would go 777c, you'd play Hell getting to the nearest globular cluster—much less the Andromeda Galaxy. In fact, large parts of the Milky Way will be clean out of shouting distance for you. If you are going to go to the most distant part of our galaxy from Earth, even 777c is a snail's pace. When you have to ride a snail, how much good does it do to pick a racing snail and feed him full of crystal meth? He is STILL a snail.

O, and I often read that Einstein largely crushed mankind's hope to explore the stars.

TILT!!!

If you had a magic drive that would let you accelerate and decelerate your spacecraft just as if space-time was strictly Newtonian...

Just how many stars would you be able to visit relatively quickly? Even if you could accelerate indefinitely fast, what in the seven burning Hells would you use for FUEL?

…..Saxon Violence

BIG PS:

No real point—just sayin'...

Personally, I would use a Micro Black hole as a infinite source of energy, if you could get a black hole to cannibalize mass into energy it would be a insane energy source putting out very large amounts of energy. All you would have to do is use a larger and larger black hole to power your spaceship if you needed more energy, I once designed a ship which I called the Tardis Class ship which had two binary black holes that powered the spacecraft which produced around 400 Exatons of energy per second, but the problem is it was a massive ship. There is a thread about faster than light traveling using Carbon Fusion and Negative Mass particles around here where I designed a smaller ship Link = http://www.scienceforums.com/topic/34451-building-a-spaceship-that-can-travel-out-of-the-solar-system/?hl=spaceship

How about antimatter as an energy source? In principle, I conclude that clusters of antimatter may exist within. Or outside, our observable universe. Clumps, pockets, nebulas or however you state it. Undiscovered/undetected by today's technology.

I understand there is no observation evidence...we do not observe annialations of matter-antimatter in our view of the Cosmos...not even remnants of annialations. Still, maybe an abundance of antimatter exists out there?

It can't be ruled out, certainly, though there are reasons to think this is not so: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baryon_asymmetry

If you understand the physics of exotic semi-propulsion methods or even changing the direction of time experienced locally there are situations in which that speed limit is nothing like warp 9.999 or 2,000x ls or whatever it was in star trek and even a relativistic em driven slingshot can be bridged with an outer alcubierre driven 'relativity-nullifier' so you could either just rewrite your location, date and temporal rendering rates or achieve limitless speeds via constant em driven acceleration by cancelling any time-rate distortion ahead and behind it

Have you heard about these helical light benders?

Put a black hole in the middle and you can potentially achieve all those time travel and mftl effects:

While the OP topic isn't too out there, the conversation has most def moved in strange directions. And so here it is.

Maybe one day this kind of talk won't be pure fiction, but right now majority of the stuff UAP is throwing out there is straight strange and unproven.

Victor, this Tardis class ship you designed, what held the two black holes in place, you know, if you wanted to stop at a nice planet, what would keep the black holes from punching a hole in your ship and the planet?

Magnetic field around the black hole(s).

I know most believe that gravity is the weakest force but it's actually the strongest. It's stronger than the strong nuclear force and even overcomes the Pauli exclusion principle. Please calculate how many black holes it would take to power a strong enough magnetic field to counteract the inertia of 2 micro holes that are also creating thrust. I think you might as well also design a perpetual acceleration machine.

PS. Actually a star's energy can overcome gravity when the star explodes so that impulse is for a time greater than gravity. So you could possibly generate a strong enough magnetic field if you had a supernova on board your ship.
