Left-right symmetry

In Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe, he says the left and right sides are not perfectly symmetrical. He didn't explain too much about this, especially the part where he says some experiments can be done in front of the mirror and the reflection won't be the same. Do you have more information on this?

It is because the universe isn't symmetrical that matter exists. If the universe is symmetrical, anti-matter and matter will cancel each other to produce electricity. Sine the universe isn't symmetrical, that's why we don't normally see anti-matter, right?
