Please help explain the following: ball-and-stick model, molecular formula and empirical formula. Afterwards, using a ball-and-stick model of the compound 2,4-dibromo-3,3,4,4-tetrafluorobutene, what is its empirical formula?

Also please explain the concepts involved as clearly as you can and if possible, leave some further references to study on the related topic/s.

@ exchemist.  If you don't want to help or don't know how to answer my post, then fine.  Watch your language!

I regard attempting to cheat, instead of doing one's own assignments, as fairly despicable, as well as being counterproductive for the person involved. In this case I was annoyed because it looked as if you couldn't even be bothered to ask a question yourself, but had just copied & pasted the assignment question, without explanation. That - if it is what you did - is about as unengaged and lazy as it gets.

However I am very happy to try to help, as far as I can, anyone who wants to understand physical science.

If you want to learn, you describe to me as far as you can, in your own words, what you think these 3 different representations of a chemical compound are. I will be more than happy to comment on that to help your understanding.

Or, why don't we work through the halogenated hydrocarbon example in the assignment, and then you can write some words to generalise from that to answer the first part? What do you think the empirical and molecular formulae are for it, for starters?
