This Odd Thing A Stupid Person (Me) Noticed. Explain Please!

Why? Pi/C ( or some call V ) = 1.0?

I can't remember why I typed that into my calculator, and google was no help.

Is there anything interesting or can be said involving this?

or is it just random?

What are "C" and "V"? I am not familiar with these as standard symbols for any physical or mathematical constant.

C and or V mean speed of light. Sorry I just googled it, I didn't know before then either.

So what I'm asking is, why? is there anything to be said about? or is it random? that

Pi (3.14...) divided by the speed of light 299 792 458 ( some just say 300 000 000, and other edge lords say something else)

equals = 1.0.....

I find this very peculiar and would like some one to inject some facts into the subject.

Thank you!

It's not 1, it's 0.000000010479225

A small number divided by a big number.

You're likely being confused by the way your calc displayed the result.

1.0479225x10^-8 (more or less)

It happens to have 1 as first digit as pi starts with 3 and C is "close" to 300000000 m/s.

Well it should be obvious to anyone remotely numerate that 3.14..... divided by 3 does NOT equal 1.

So there is nothing significant at all here.

It's a very normal notation style; in this case due to the large number of zeros between the decimal point and the first significant digit.

e.g. It's more convenient to see 1.234e-20 than 0.00000000000000000001234

(eN as used in calc to represent x10N)

The real lesson here is that your calculator did not just show "1", it showed something you didn't recognise, but you ignored the stuff you didn't recognise and then jumped to a wrong conclusion.

Cats are smart.  He knows what is coming. :-)

Seriously, I am glad this thread appeared.  I did not know that about the calculator either.  Now I know.  Thank you.

This reminds me of our late friend "current", a.k.a "river", who infested this forum for a short time while banned from sciforums.

I had the attached exchange with him, there, at one point...:http://www.sciforums.com/threads/why-can-we-not-say-water-exist-in-4-phases.153698/page-9#post-3369524:winknudge:
