Music DVD?   I never buy music when I can listen to it for free on the radio!

I must admit I have not bought a CD for years. I tend increasingly to use YouTube; it has so many performances recorded on it - and for those I have to learn to sing in myself it has the advantage that one can go over difficult bits repeatedly, to hear how they sound and learn to sing along.

Currently I am struggling with what is I think my favourite chorus from Bach's St John Passion, which we perform in 10 days from now. Very stirring performance given here, directed by Harnoncourt at 1:14:30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbVTxRicMGM. But it's tough: fast-paced and each fugal entry is subtly different from the one before.

I still buy Cd’s. I just feel like I have to have them haha I normally wait until a few months after they’ve been released to buy them, they’re normally cheaper then. I can’t remember the last time I played one though... I just use Apple Music for the most part but I guess they’re handy to have if I ever decide I don’t want to pay for streaming.

happy wheels

why buy music when you can listen online for free.

Some people actually like to collect CD's and DVD's. Actually the record player has gotten popular again because digital music is just not the same as a record. Most of the newer generation would not know that since most have never heard Vinyl.

Digital music of the highest quality is always going to be better than vinyl records. It's just another crazy conspiracy theory to think otherwise..

And as for digital sound, not even the experts can tell the difference between the finest digital grand pianos and the real thing.

Do you even know how to play a guitar? Do you even know anything about music? You have gone mad to say, it's a conspiracy theory that records are better. Who is the conspiracy against? Do you even know the definition of a conspiracy?

The fact is vinyl is far more high-quality. No audio data is lost when pressing a record.

As formats have shifted over the years, so too has the technology. In the early days of the MP3, storage space came at a premium. So, to pack in as many tracks on your 256MB MP3 player, music needed to be compressed.

The original recordings or masters of an album are of a very high quality. These are used for the mixing process so that as much detail can be found as needed. This is comparable to photography, where it’s better to shoot in higher resolution than you really need, as then you have the most freedom when it comes to editing.

However, the files generated are far larger than you could feasibly store on your computer, phone, or portable music player. So the audio has to be compressed. During this process, some of the detail is lost. However, this is seen as a reasonable trade-off between quality and practicality.

Vinyl is a lossless format. The pressings are made straight from the masters and contain all of the detail the artist intended. It’s for this reason that vinyl sounds better than digital. For comparison, listening to vinyl as opposed to digital is like viewing the Mona Lisa with your own eyes rather than looking at a picture of it on a smartphone.
