I grew up on the East coast and in a little over an hour I could reach the beaches and bays of Delaware, New Jersey, and Virginia. These beaches were by no means clean in appearance. Over the years many had to be shut down for a time, because syringes and other medical waste was washing up on certain spots. More than once it was some doctor or dentist who didn't want to do away with the medical waste they on hand in the proper way. To get around this they just took their boat out a short distance and dumped it over the side. Some got caught because they were too stupid and threw it in with either their names or some kind of identifying numbers on it. Other than that the appearance of the East coast oceans and beaches usually looked very good.

30yrs. ago or so I spent a few years out in southern California. I went to beaches in San Diego numerous times, because just about every day out there is a perfect day for the beach. At first when I saw all the debris in the water I assumed there had been a bad storm at sea and it blew a lot of garbage to the shoreline, but every time I went it was the same thing. I'm not sure if it was the tides, the windstream, being to close to a lesser regulated country, but there wash trash everywhere.

Recycling is big around here, when I drive into town the collection facility is stacked very high with different materials to be recycled. Although the video seems like a great idea, given the conditions of roads in this country, I'm not sure of the politics involved.

This island looks horrendous. I've also seen birds with lighters stuck in their throat, or their head stuck in the handle of a container preventing them from getting food. Hopefully they will find some natural resources under it then many countries can do the brinkmanship game about who owns it. Then whoever wins will clean up the top and only destroy what lies beneath.  :fool:

Does the Atlantic or Pacific have more trash? Appearance only.
