What Is A Successful Life ? (From A Psychological Point Of View)

Here are the components that I use to define a successful life -

happy childhood

good schooling

at least a basic graduate degree

a productive employment, in either business or service

a good wife

healthy progeny

provision for old age

All these are basic needs, and a person can be successful, with all of these, he need not be a

super-achiever.

Is this a realistic model ?  :vava:

I don't believe these are necessarily basic needs, and I think you need first to determine what constitutes "success".

If success is judged from the viewpoint of the person whose life it is, then I suggest success is achieving a sense of satisfaction with one's life. No doubt there are illiterate, single fishermen on the shores of Lake Tanganyika who are content with their lot and consider their lives successful.

A successful life is to think about whether atoms and the universe could still exist without careers and culture. Success is to think about whether electricity, brains and metal need award ceremonies and political elections.

Success is to think about whether the Second World War can be made into a computer.
