The Establishment Seems To Punish Curiosity And Free Thinking?

A bit late I know but just for the record, for any other readers, Einstein was NOT self-taught. He learnt physics and maths at the most prestigious technical university in Switzerland, to which he was admitted unusually young.

He did indeed have trouble finding an academic teaching post after obtaining his degree and did take a job in the Swiss Patent Office. However he was NOT, as he is so often wrongly portrayed, working as a clerk. He was a patent office examiner. This is an intellectually demanding job which is a good fit for someone with a science degree, as I know myself from my own time training as a patent agent.

The science community did NOT reject Einstein in the least. He was a professor by the age of 30.

Cranks like to cultivate the twin myths of Einstein as an outsider and the science "establishment" as hostile to new ideas, but neither is true.
