From what I have read and heard, the US military is heavily dependent on it's satellites. To the point that if a war broke out and the sats. (or most) were destroyed it would severely disable them.

I find it an odd relationship the US and Russia have in space as opposed to the ground. I get the feeling, for the most part, that the politics of space between the two countries are being handled by scientists. The US must still bum space station rides off the Ruskies for a slight charge, rides for returns to earth, and of course we share some of the same living space on the station. Meanwhile accusations from both countries claim the other broke promises of who they were bombing, or who fired first, or who hit the civilians.

Maybe someone more familiar with it can tell me otherwise, but I don't think there was anything about a satellite tagging next to another in the UN's agreement years ago? it seemed to me that the USAF and spy agencies have been sending up a lot more satellites over the last few years. Sometime after 2020 Russia plans to go with it's own SS. I hope to hell the US will be able to send it's own people into space by then, If not we will truly be falling behind in space exploration.

Hasn't it always been this way, though? Since the Cold War, Russia and the US have made war in space. For now it's more, showing off who has more power but we'll see in the future how this will all pan out. It's troubling for certain, to think about the possibility of space weapons.
