How about some commentary.What's going to happen with a cheap charger: bleeding your battery charge slowly by the resistance of the usb wire. Turns the chemical energy, into electricity, into heat.->If the pack is REALLY cheap and doesn't conform to USB standards(re: no 500mA fuse, thermal cutout), it will probably heat/blow up the battery, and could melt the cord.more expensive(or well engineered) battery pack: Internal microcontroller uses the TX&Rx lines to tell it's connected to itself in a short, caps off the flow to the 5v and does nothing.
