ScienceKid14 Posted January 18, 2016 Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 Hello just before we start i am new here so if there specific questions im not aloud to ask due to being maybe a somewhat religious or sensitive topic or disrespectful to a persons beliefs than i apologize in advance and did not intend in disrespecting in what you believe in any way im sorry So im young, 14 curious about how the universe and space works and the amazing progress that science is able to push humanity to amazing limits but sometimes but today in particular wonder about what others in the scientific community think of how the world began and the aftermath i believe the big bang as im a man of logic and believe the big bang created the universe but as for the afterlife i studied hard on this and realized what if it was just it like no heaven no hell no other body just blank as if you are just staring a black wall just staring at nothing i dont know if you could give me your thoughts on what you believe happens that would give me some insight on life and death Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The world – the Earth – fell together (literally) 4,567,170,000 to 4,570,000,000 years ago, so is now about 1/3rd the age of the universe. Early on (during its well-named Hadean eon Earth was a rough place for life, or even stable rocks formations, for about 500,000,000 years getting smashed into a liquid a few times, one of them likely giving it its moon. The aftermath? Well, here we are ... :) as for the afterlife i studied hard on this and realized what if it was just it like no heaven no hell no other body just blank as if you are just staring a black wall just staring at nothing i dont know if you could give me your thoughts on what you believe happens that would give me some insight on life and deathI’ve found no credible scientific evidence for an afterlife. However, sociologically, people believing in something can be more important than that thing actually existing. People believing that if they live as they are told by religious authorities they will live forever in heaven has an obvious and profound impact on human history and culture. Psychologically, the human psyche appears to have a strong aversion to accepting that a person can ever truly die. On a deep level, we love ourselves, and want to live forever. sanctus Posted January 19, 2016 Report Share Posted January 19, 2016 Well if we procreate our DNA gets to live longer ;-) I used to be a bit scared thinking and believing that there is really nothing after you die, until I realised that nothing means really nothing: not like you and everything black, rather no "you" neither so nothing to worry. While if there were some afterlife then there is a point in worrying, since you dont' know what is coming but you will be able to perceive no matter what it is. Maine farmer Posted January 20, 2016 Report Share Posted January 20, 2016 Well, being more of an observer of the scientific community than an actual member, I would like to mention that the big bang theory, and all of modern science has it's roots in religion. In the early days of modern science, it was largely funded by the church as a way of getting closer to god, at least until scientific observations began to contradict religious doctrine. As far as the merits of the big bang theory, it does make testable predictions, although I don't see how a mortal species can ever be able to be absolutely certain. Regarding life after death, I hope that if I have an immortal soul that there is infinite knowledge so that i may never know everything. Non-existence seems preferable to perpetual boredom !
