Hi everyone,

Who am I?

A scientist, to the detriment of everyone I love (No dear, that is not sterile enough, I am not washing those dishes!)

What do I do?

Currently finshing up my PhD, again to the detriment of everyone (No dear, I wont take out the trash, I am busy writing up a manuscript)

I'll be popping in and out while I have free time.

Hi Craig,

Many thanks.

My PhD is essentially in biomedical sciences (specifically translational research), wherein I'm looking into inhibiting myostatin  (negative regulator of muscle mass) by a monoconal Ab, and at the same time restoring dystrophin (via gene therapy) to ameliorate symptoms of Duchenne Musclar Dystrophy.

So essentially shiny stuff that doesn't work well, but is fun nonetheless to work upon.

What interests you Craig?

Like a lot of folk here at hypography, pretty much everything interests me. :) It’s easier to list what doesn’t. Keeping up with the Kardashians? (though even that does, as a sociological study) As a class, trivia – dredging up rote data, which my phone can better do than me – is what doesn’t interest me.

My abbreviated life story: As a teen in the 1970s, I wanted to be an astronomer, managed to intern in it for a summer, then dropped out into a year of nothing but running and playing RPGs, a year of studying fine arts (in which I learned I was a mediocre draftsman and a bad painter) then, almost by accident, a got a BS in math, taught remedial college math and science (un-lucratively), and found myself employed as a computer programmer, which I’ve been for the past 30 years. Likely because my parents were medical – father a surgeon, mother a nurse then nursing professor – I landed in the medical programming discipline, though for the past 10 years (as a succession of big 3rd-party development shops stole me and my team’s thunder :(), I’ve been decreasingly involved in clinical stuff, increasingly in computing infrastructure and business operations.

I’ve a quixotic drive to grock prime numbers in a fame-winning way. Of course, I like to write computer programs. Lately, I’ve been a fan of a gang of mostly young folk interested in computer-brain-interfaces, who post mostly in the FullDive technology forum.
