Does Anyone Here Have A Problem With This?

I just found out that this happens, and apparently I'm not the only one.

It seems that a place in Canada ships medical waste to a place in Oregon that burns it at 2,000 degrees. There is a process here that generates electricity.

So what's the problem? Part of the medical waste is aborted fetuses.

From a moral standpoint, how do you feel about this?

I'm quite certain the Spartan's would have approved.

Every society has different moral standards, sometimes in the same national grouping.

Ask yourself this: if we're going to poison the environment by burning stuff, we might as well not waste the resultant energy. Maybe we should have a law that says that all burning of materials producing CO2, CO and other garbage *must* be used in a form that makes use of that energy. Why not *all* crematoria?

Maybe one ought to see it as a positive thing, with a last bit of benefit coming from that drunk 17-year-old that plowed his car into a tree. Sort of payback for his sins if you want to make it about morality.

I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe, :phones:

Yeah...cremation: That one may have too go.

There is no net energy gain from a cremation., and if you wanted one with energy output, there is no manner inwhich to speed up natural decay/human jerkification in order for said burning of dead human to have any energy output.

Rendering the fat out of them in a mechanical fashion maybe worthwhile for candle making...but the rest of the human jerky drying time takes too long a process for the bereaved too deal with.

The process can be accelerated with powder (water absorption) - but then your back to square one.

I like The Soyelent Green solution better - b/c there are valid nutrients ready for re-use.

---but most people won't go for having a blender at a funeral.

I think the greenest funeral, is simply leaving the body to rot on a forested surface.

The main problem I see with this is: That sometimes I think to myself that the animals (our friendly earthly brethren) - think to themselves that we are their care takers...and creating the commonality of having dead humans being eaten by forest animals is probably not a good idea. (they may just get a taste for us) and (I am sure that our domesticated animals, not only see us as care takers, but as our friends - and doo behave much like humans when seeing death)

Cremation is a problem, sadly no-one is going too switch into a religious practice inwhich we throw our dead into the ocean. (and there is no technological+ doing something so simple)

Maybe a combination of blender/centrifuge/burning is possible? -ie burn the fat to run the centrifuge to capture the water and needed nutrients for re-use in fish tanks. Funeral parlours could be like Sea World? - the wake could be a show with the Dolphins? - maybe you could start up an economy of Rendering your dead loved on into a nice pic with the Dolphins? - or if on a good day there are enough "accidents" ,and the Parlour is in good business the energy output may just be enough for a ride on the roller coasters.
