Panda Seo Algorithm

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have some insight into the Panda SEO algorithm that was released in 2012 by Google? With Search Engine Optimization, content is king, but I am curious to know more about the reasoning behind the algorithm. Have back links been discarded completely?

Content is very important and so are quality natural backlinks. Panda SEO was designed to look at on page quality. If your page is full of errors, spam, lack of content etc you could be penalized.  Here is more information: http://searchengineland.com/library/google/google-panda-update

Thank you Gregb, the light just went on for me.  :smilingsun: It makes perfect sense - The Panda algorithm discourages websites from generating nonsensical text. Fresh, sensible content is needed for a higher ranking, and quality natural back links enhance the ranking even more. A brilliant move by Google!

In concept yes, but in practice is extremely difficult to evaluate in this manner. There has been a lot of collateral damage done. Especially with forums like SF. Often we have thin posts or threads with few replies. Google doesn't always see the value and instead just see a low content page.

I understand. Thank you for explaining the (not so good) implications of this algorithm. Do other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing have similar algorithms? I guess it does not really matter as Google is by far the largest and most-used search engine which holds the monopoly at the moment.

I don't have such information on Bing. It is an engine that has gotten much better over the years and something to take notice of. Unfortunately it has not gotten as much fame as Google. As you state, there isn't much gossip or notice of what Bing is doing as much as Google.
