We Know That Basil Makes Oxygen Even At Night.

Ever the caring terrapin, and lack of reference in the OP notwithstanding, in partial answer the process wherein plants predominately respire at night is called Crassulacean acid metabolism. At the link I find no specific mention of oxygen output in these plants, however since respiration occurs through the stomata and the stomata in these crassulacean acid metabolizing plants are only open at night, I presume any gaseous oxygen production is accomplished at night. Plants using this strategy are primarily plants of arid environs and I do not see any basil listed at the link.
