Theory versus practice

Recommended Posts

I personally believe that idealism, theory and belief are synonyms for the same thing. 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating' as they say in the UK. What I see in the western world, is society turning into a block of melted ice cream. What do I mean by this? Basically that we are turning into all talk and no action as a society. Mindless, puerile celebrity as opposed to practical skills - self-publicity and appearance as opposed to substance and hard work.

We see plastic surgery and make up, turning reasonably attractive women into cats, with cows lips (trout pout) or moon faces, stretched out of all recognition, to remove all lines of age. We need people with confidence, not the insecure, who buy into all this garbage (See also my post in politics about Ugandan witch doctors, which is related).

In Britain, The Labour Government believe that 'money' will solve everything but lack of conscience in staff, will never be solved by pouring money into the public services (This also applies to children in schools that labour 'thought' (see idealism, belief, theory above) would learn better, through being integrated in classrooms of mixed sex and mixed ability, which has created chaos instead and poor results, exam and study wise. What have they done about this - given the result? Changed their theories/ beliefs/ ideals? No! Like all superstitious thought- whether in religion, politics or even science - they've continued to push their beliefs in the vain hope that persistence will alter reality, rather than using our senses, will, through examining reality and finding what does work: This idiocy is also being applied to racial equality and class equality, with equal dire results, crime and restlessness results).

Well on the Conservative side, reducing taxes will solve all problems. Giving the rich huge tax cuts will result in investment and job growth.

See how well that's worked the past 8 years? :)

For every Karl Marx and Milton Friedman on the theory side, you have a V.I. Lenin and a G.W. Bush on the practice side....

The real trick is to weed out the idiots on the practice side who don't accept that the results are diverging from the theoretical predictions.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to believe, :phones:

And I thought I was on your 'ignore' list! Very funny rendition of Burns, worthy of pun style (unfortunately)!
