How can I enter a degree symbol?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to this forum, trying to get the hang. How can I insert a degree symbol, (Alt+U0157)? Thanks for your attention to this question. Brian

Check out the wiki on this:

Degree symbol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Or, you can just copy and paste this: °

If you have Word, enable extra characters and search for the set that contains the degree symbol. (there are several :naughty:)

BrianG, to see how latex generally works on this forum there are 2 sticky threads in the physics and mathematics forum one is here for example.

For the strikethrough:

Either write a pm to Alexander to ask if he included the ulem package in the header (which does not seem the case) or write a question in the thread on how to do it...I never used it so far so, sorry.

For latex in general I use a lot the not so short introduction to latex, you can find here for example.

Or you could use latex (the [math] tags) for it :)

[math]22\celsius[/math]

or

[math]22\degree F[/math]

Thank you Alexander, by using the quote button, I see what you did:

[math]22\celsius[/math]

or

[math]22\degree F[/math]

May I please send you a PM to find out how to do a strike-through?

brian, you can click on the math, or just hover the mouse over it and see what the code that went into it was (its quite nifty :P )

my bad on not posting the code, ooopsie :)

sout seems to have formatting issues in the math mode, you can see that it works with text mode by

[math]\text{\sout{this is crossed out!!!}} \sout{and this is not}[/math]

[math]\text{\sout{this is crossed out!!!}} \sout{and this is not}[/math]

math though has a \cancel command that is meant to do just that, so you can do [math]\cancel{lalalala}[/math]
