something i've been wondering for a while....

when i don't eat for a few hours, not because i choose not to, but because i'm out and about and broke and have no way of eating, my head will hurt (obviously) and in the back of my neck i can hear this strange sound every few minutes...it sounds like really fast moving liquid. this only happens when i am starving, and i can feel it in the back of my neck. does anybody have any idea what this is?

Hmm, I have been dyignosed with a weak case of Hypoglycemia and "visi-vagle-sincapi" (how ever you spell it...not sure) When you don't eat, you blood sugar level obviously goes down. And when this happens, Certain hormones are released that cause things like your liver or kidneys to produce hormones to ether access stored blood sugar or start creating a replacement. And we all know that hormones travel through your blood. Maybe you ear relasing of hormones....but is that possible???

Or maybe....its just blood rushing too your head....

LOL, can u tell i am in anatomy at the moment B)

it's this really awkward sound of some sort of fluid, or air, sounds like its being exerted through the back of my neck. it sounds like a small stomache growl, and feels like something moving back there. and this only happens when i'm deprived of food.

You could always test for low blood sugar by taking a dose of glucose when it happens, i.e. a candy bar or something. At any rate I'd ask a doctor. They can run some blood tests that will narrow it down better than guessing.

Low blood sugar, eh? I know it's not entirely uncommon for people without diabetes to get low blood sugars on occasion... I'm thinking that my being diabetic wouldn't affect the way in which I feel when my blood sugar drops as compared to people without it, so I'm going to guess that it's probably a low blood sugar. When I have a blood sugar that drops a good bit below eighty, I tend to get very tired and dizzy (straight-outa-the-book, ja? XD), BUT I believe I have, on a few occasions, had this feeling you describe. It's nothing that I would necessarily be worried about, as it's never bothered me, but if you have access to a way to test your blood sugar when you feel this way, it wouldn't be a bad idea just to check. Since there is no food involved, there's no worry for hyperinsulinism, but perhaps a mild bout of hypoglycemia could be the culprit? So long as it's not something that you let happen too often, there really should be little concern, I would think. Then again, I'm no professional, by any means.

So, my suggestions to you are to test your blood sugar if you can when this feeling comes, and if it is anything below 65 or so on more than one occasion (and HOW many times have I said " occasion" thusfar? Geez) of this feeling happening, I might suggest going to see someone about it, but only if this happens so often that it proves detrimental to your day. If you have the money, I would suggest actually picking up a cheap glucometer at a pharmacy. Some of them come with a sampling of testing strips. If not, you should purchase the cheapest package of strips that are compatible with the monitor you chose. You may be able to get out of that without spending more than $50.

Sorry I couldn't really shed more light on the situation (I mostly gave suggestions, I'm sure you noticed XD), but I wish you luck in finding out what this is! :3
