Sociological question: what is the difference between enlightenment and modernity?

Modernity is something which references a tool or an object and it's place in technological history.

Enlightenment is an approach to existence which is timeless.

I notice you posted this in Sociology, but I'm unaware of any research being done on this topic. Do you have articles which prompted your question? If not, I suggest this is a philosophical issue, not a sociological one.
