You know you are a geek when...

Recommended Posts

You know you are a geek when (and feel free to add to this):

You know you are a geek, when you have completed a multiple million digit computation on your laptop, during class, and it has nothing to do with that class.

You know you are a geek, when have computed pi to over 10 places 3 times in the same day, using 3 different algorithms.

You know you are a geek, when you can spell your name in ASCII

You know you are a geek, when you can spell you name in binary

Well, i started it, and i will continue, just wanna get some more people to join :P

You know you are a geek when praise you the all powerful Methyltheobromine God.

You know you are a geek when you can taste the difference between Bourbon Santos and Medellin grown brews.

You also know you are a geek when you start converting phone numbers to binary

For example 253-4564 == 1111100 - 1000111010100 (btw not the lame translation of a per digit base...)

You know you are a geek when you comment on someone's shirt that says something like :[math]{C8H10N4O2}[/math]

here is more:

You know you are a geek if you can speak in SQL.

You know you are a geek if you'd rather build it yourself and spend twice as much.

You know you are a geek if you ever organized any protests in Redmond, Washington.

You know you are a geek if you ever had to cancel support for a product, because you know more about it then the highest level techs providing support.

You know you are a geek if you have ever criticized Futurama for the episode for scientiffic inadequacies (like when they were collecting gravitons)

You know you are a geek when you've written an RPN calculator. More than one. More, actually, than you can count. Including one in word-length-less binary. Including ones for binary UTMs. Have no need to follow the “UTM” link. Given serious thought to scratchbuilding a hardware to implement one – either a UTM or a word-length-less binary RPN calculator.

You know you are a geek if you sympathize with this quote: Natasha Chen Christensen quotes Julie Smith: "a bright young man turned inward, poorly socialized, who felt so little kinship with his own planet that he routinely traveled to the ones invented by his favorite authors, who thought of that secret, dreamy place his computer took him to as cyberspace -- somewhere exciting, a place more real than his own life, a land he could conquer, not a drab teenager's room in his parents' house."

(computer equipment store = Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA or any other big computer equipment retail center)

You know you are a geek when you go to computer equipment store looking for a specific chipset of a Netgear wireless card, just because you know that it supports fuzzing.

You know you are a geek if you have ever went into a computer equipment store, and then inadvertently end up selling a machine to a customer and saving them like $300, because you overheard what the salesperson was telling them, and just couldn't help yourself, but to correct.

You know you are a geek if you have ever gone to a computer equipment store to host a torrent on all of the available desktops.

You know you are a geek if you have ever socially engineered anyone at any big store to forward you to the store intercom... needless to say more

You know you are a geek if you know that the first computer bug was a moth.

You know you are a geek if you have ever taken anyone off your friend's list because they spoke out negatively about Mario.

You know you are a geek when you submit your physics homework as a PDF (and have the latex code that generated it).

You know you are a geek if you wonder why that SQL statement does not refer to a database, only to a table...

You know you're a geek when Fry's is the only computer equipment store and Best Buy, Circuit City and even CompUSA are only "consumer electronics stores."
You know you are a geek if you have ever went into a computer equipment store, and then inadvertently end up selling a machine to a customer and saving them like $300, because you overheard what the salesperson was telling them, and just couldn't help yourself, but to correct.
A digression: my cousin was saying this when I was a kid: "there are only two kinds of salesmen you'll find in a computer store: 'experts' and 'novices' and the amount of experience separating the two is three months."
You know you are a geek if you know that the first computer bug was a moth.
You know you are a geek if you know that that first bug was found by a girl.

You know you are a geek if you know that that girl invented the first high-level programming language (Grace Hopper, AKA "the Mother of Cobol").

You know you are a geek if you wonder why that SQL statement does not refer to a database, only to a table...
You know you manage geeks when you wonder why none of them can write portable code.

And its corollary:

You know you are a geek when you try to use all the features simultaneously and say that makes it a superior solution.

Using the simplest method for pulling a rabbit out of a hat,

Buffy

You know you are a shopaholic if you get that speciffic about a store. :hihi:

I never said i sold a system from the store to them... i merely pointed them to an hp model they should get over the emachine that the "expert" was trying to sell them.

on this note, you know you are a geek when you are plotting a youtube video that will depict a geek squad person as being totally incompetent... (lets just leave it at token ring, for starters...)

You know you are a geek if you know that that first bug was found by a girl.

You know you are a nice geek when you purposely delete the "by a girl" part out of your "you know you are a geek" line because you know that it would sound better coming from a girl (Buffy specifically). Her name was Grace Hopper and it was a problem in a Mark II system :P Yes same Grace Hopper who invented the programming language...
