My elder brother has become addicted to alcohol. I am very worried for him because some times, he even thinks of committing suicide. Since his boss has thrown him out of work, he is depressive also. I have a friend who works as counselor, he told to bring him at his centre, and he will try all his best to help my brother to stop drinking alcohol. But he told me that I should find a medication which will help my brother not to drink alcohol. He told me that counseling as well as the medication will help him to stop the alcohol drinking. I’ve learnt about a medication called campral:

Campral is a drug normally prescribed in the treatment of alcoholics (it is meant to help them stop drinking alcoholic drinks). In order for the patient to gain the best results from his treatment with Campral (also known as Acamprosate) it is recommended that this drug should be accompanied by at least one treatment program (preferably one that includes support and even counceling).

Silver.... you did not address your brother's general state of health and it may need to be considered. A state of malnurishment is common among most addicts, as they seldom have time for real solid meals, also the constant carbohydrate load of convenience foods and beverages drains the body of essential minerals and blocks water assimilation. Magnesium shortages are common in over 80% of the population and even more so among addicts. Filling the need for proper mineralization , rehydration and magnesium deficiency will go a long way to supporting him in mental relief and resisiting pressure to drink.

Also addictions have a spiritual element as well... A belief system failure, I recommend a Bible study to examine the needs for solid beliefs....

Here are a few links about the nutritional support he may need...
