Solid air or Solid smoke???

Recommended Posts

maybe 6-7 years ago i saw on "Discovery Canada" a material they called, i think, solid smoke...not sure. it was VERY*** light weight and did in fact resemble slid smoke colour. anyone know what this was.

Also, and what i am really curious about, is an airplane they showed. a small little "toy" plane. they put their hands under this thing and it would raise. you could fly the damn thing just by putting your hands under it and walking...i cant for the life of me find more info on it (likely due to my memory). anybody know what i am talking about?

i would very much like to know the material used in this plane...very very cool.

I'm certainly no expert on the stuff, but the term you want to research is aerogel. Aerogel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is a beginning.

YouTube - Aerogel - lightest, most expensive stuff in the World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PfelqRpOQk

Here's a Hypography thread about it. http://hypography.com/forums/engineering-applied-science/8895-aerogel.html?highlight=aerogel
