In the year of our Lord. The current date era beginning approximately 2007 years ago in the Gregorian calendar, based on the assumed birth of Jesus Christ.

That is the Wiktionary's definition of A.D. or anno Domini.

I wish to be certain it refers to the year of His birth and not the year of His Resurrection.

Also, what is the best solution for an accurate calculation of His birth date ? I know there was a star in the east that apparently lingered for a period of time and that the wise men didn't find Jesus on the day of his birth but rather about 8 to 12 years after his birth at which time Jesus was spirited off to Egypt for safeguarding and that it might have been spring time when he was born instead of winter.

It's all very sketchy from my knowledgebase. Anyone care to help? Can it at least be narrowed down to the smallest time frame?

It is indeed the assumed birth.

Don't count too much on that star : it is not clear whether it is a comet, a nova or simply a conjunction of planets that the "star of Betlehem" refers too.

Mathew starts by making it the nth year of the governement of Tiberius Cesar. But Tiberius has been co-emperor for some years before he became sole emperor after the death of Augustus.

BTW, where did you get the "8 to 12 years" from ?

Thanks eric l,

Jesus was reported to have lived in a house between the ages of 8 to 12 where the wise men found him, that being in a house and not the manger. There's no way to pinpoint His birth and so our calendar is based on a felonious date. I wish it were otherwise.

From what source did you find this assertion of 8 to 12 years and the Egypt trip? Matthew says they fled to Egypt until Herod died and then returned, while Luke says they returned to Galilee, creating a huge contradiction. I have heard that the "manger" was really a house because of interpreting the Greek word for house. December 25th is certainly not an accurate date of Jesus' birth, if in fact there ever was a Jesus.

Freddy,

Are you wanting to come flat out to deny The Son Of God ever existed ??? I'll pray you don't answer in the affirmative.

I'm in pursuit of the hidden date when Jesus either was born or resurrected. I don't have the knowledge that provides me with that understanding. I believe it has been hidden for a reason.

To the best of my knowledge, our calendar (starting with the birth of Christ) is off with about 4 years. I'm not sure whether that's 4 years before or after the birth, though, but there's no way for it to be exact. Back then, population registers was still an emerging art...

Thanks so much for that Boerseun. The 4 year period you mention is unfamiliar to me. Would you mind giving me the reasoning behind that ? I count the 4 year period between ages 8 and 12 as the variable to be added to age 8.

Please don't put words into other members' mouths.

As for the birth of Jesus, there are no perfect records of the event. It boils down to interpretation and which sources you choose to use.

This article pretty much sums up the confusion:

The Manila Times Internet Edition | OPINION > When was Jesus born?

Here is an interesting non-theistic text questioning the existence of Jesus. It explains why historical sources are unreliable, and why faith sometimes comes in the way of historical evidence:

Did Jesus exist?

Tormod,

Your post was absolutely no help. As far as putting words into the mouths of others, you need to read it again. It was a question and not a statement. So do with this as you will. I'm not here to be attacked by the Godless tho I'm used to it. Free thinkers ??? That's a laugh. Free for them only and not for the Christian. I tolerate far more than the agnostic(which I used to be) or atheist. At least I don't attack them. Please, I'm here for a different agenda than you with no thought of moral debate. You don't believe In Jesus is your choice if that's what it is but I do and I am looking for things that appeal to me. If this forum has no tolerance for my simple pursuit then let this be my last post.
