We are so busy trying to prove what "is" that we are losing sight of what "could be". Progression involves both perspectives, lest we become stagnant in our development.
I find it an interesting notion that we teach children to be more adult, when all they are being taught is to be more childish.
People always ask what their purpose in life is. Everyones reason for existing is to continue existing. Simple. So don't live wondering why you're here, live wondering what you can do while you ARE here.
